Disneyland is not the happiest place in the world.
I went there yesterday for my birthday, yeah yeah I was all ooooh free on my birthday! yay! That part was cool but I have to say the shuttle service is a complete disaster for someone who has never been there before, let alone the fact the shuttle service is not even free, you have to pay and if the machine at your stop is out of 1 day passes you are screwed into buying more expensive ones or paying each time you ride - making a $3 trip double because Disneyland is too shady to actually keep the tickets stocked in the machines.
From Amtrack we got on the shuttle as the driver was on the cb radio telling them something was wrong with her trolley and they said well it should be fine, just pick up the people. Her machine inside didnt even work so you couldnt pay for a pass on the trolley and the passes were sold out in the station. Then we go pick up all the stops only to have the trolley start making the most horrendous sound almost as though the muffler had fallen off and was dragging along in the back or like a rim was being ridden on due to a flat tire. The people on the cb then tell the driver to get everyone off the bus. That’s awesome! We are impatient and want to get there so the driver directs us to another shuttle in which we sprint over there in hopes to catch. That driver then gives us a hard time and doesn’t believe our shuttle broke down even though you can see it off in the distance and he tries to make us pay but finally allows us to “pay for a pass at the park” which we gladly accept. We finally get to disneyland at about 11 am even though we left LA at 8 to get there - lovely. We’re then like why the hell is is packed? Oh lovely’s its spring break! Just what I wanted to do on my birthday, stand in lines for rides with a bunch of tweens and their mothers who are trying to act like their kids friends because they’re old enough to already have 4 kids ranging from 8 months to 13 and can’t deal with the fact they’re just not “cool” anymore. Lovely.
Space mountain was the best ride there and completely terrifying in that if say you were to fall out, how long would it take before someone noticed, if say you were alone - yeah… terrifying. ha ha
Everything was fine, but we didnt know it was spring break and it was way packed for a wednesday which was totally disappointing. There are a lot of things to check out, but even waiting a whole hour in line for space mountain really isn’t worth it.
I must say that a park that caters to kids, didn’t have a lot of bathrooms….
Then the shuttle service back to the train station was probably three times as bad. We left the park at about 5pm in order to keep out of the cold and just get to the train early so we could leave sooner (that park involves quite a bit of walking and we were exhausted). We run and hop on a trolley as that is what came to pick us up prior and we just wanted to get to back to the start. It then goes to a hotel and makes its way back to the loading zone. We freak out and the bus driver says to us WE SHOULD HAVE TOLD HIM WE WERE GOING TO THE TRAIN STATION. Friendly huh? Then because we paid on the trolley, since the park was even sold out of the day passes for the shuttles, he gives us a hard time about apparently getting on the wrong shuttle. WHO THE HELL KNOWS THAT EACH SPOT HAS A DIFFERENT SHUTTLE? Especially if you came from teh train station and not a hotel. WTF?! Apparently the shuttle to the train station only goes once an hour. We had just missed it and had to wait in the freeezing cold (as the sun had finally gone down just in time for us to sit and wait). End of story we got to the train station at 735pm which is 2.5 hours after leaving the park - that’s how I love to spend my days after waltzing all around a ginormous amusement park crowded with everyone and their mother.
I’m planning to complain to disney about their shuttle service (for those of us who chose to take the train there) as it totally ruined the whole day for me. Made me not want to go back.
My Advice: If you’re going to go somewhere - go to Universal Studios, their shuttle is FREE!
Avoid Disneyland at all costs. Don’t be swayed by the free birthday ticket, it will cost more than its worth!
